Culture

Culture is a segment in the curriculum that covers a broad range of topics that can spark the child’s curiosity. It involves subjects that develop the children understanding of the community, their social role, and the world. This key area teaches children to respect individuality, cultural diversity, and sustainability.

There is literally a limitless amount of knowledge to discover about the environment. A child's question may turn into two more as they seek to understand their surroundings in complex ways. In this light, Dr. Montessori emphasized the role of the prepared environment to aid in the children learning.

In the Montessori Method, the child learns basic lessons involving history and sciences such as biology and geography. They can explore the diversity of cultures by learning different foods, music, and stories. This introduction to culture allows them to realize that every culture is unique and deserving of respect.

Learning the beauty of diversity

What makes the Montessori way the best method of learning about culture is the wide array of activities for children. We have top-notch resources that help them discover countries and their people, enabling them to appreciate the vastness of the world. They can learn through puzzle maps, charts, globes, and other educational materials that are available at Lotus Montessori.

Furthermore, children can learn using picture and name cards that introduce flora and fauna. We encourage growing and watering plants and tending the vegetable and flower beds as their hands-on tasks. They learn to practice weeding, composting, recycling, and other activities that tug their hearts and urge them to care for the environment.
